How to start a YouTube channel in New Zealand
Set the channel up for New Zealand search from day one
Open the channel on a Google account you control, set New Zealand as the country in Studio, verify with a New Zealand mobile number, and decide whether the channel is Kiwi-specific or aimed at Australia and the US too, because that decides the posting time and the keywords.
Kiwi-specific or trans-Tasman, decided before the name
"KiwiSaver Explained" draws New Zealand viewers and advertisers; "Backcountry Hunting NZ" draws Australians and Americans too. Both work; pick one so the name and the keywords agree.
Set the channel country to New Zealand
Studio → Settings → Channel → Basic info → Country of residence. This is what YouTube checks against the availability lists and what AdSense expects the payment address to match.
2-Step Verification and advanced features
Turn on 2-Step Verification on the Google account, then verify the channel with a New Zealand mobile number (Spark, One NZ and 2degrees all receive the code) to get advanced features.
A handle that matches every other platform
Short, no numbers, identical on TikTok, Instagram and Facebook; a mismatch loses viewers who find you elsewhere.
Description in the words viewers search
Write it with the phrases people type ("how to get monetised on YouTube NZ", "KiwiSaver vs term deposit", "Fiordland hunting trip"), name the upload day, and add a business email for brand deals.
First five videos as one series
Five videos on one promise tell YouTube exactly who to show you to. Mixing hunting, finance and vlogs in week one tells it nothing.
Audio first, then camera
A lapel microphone with a windscreen and daylight outperform a 4K camera with wind noise; most New Zealand channels are outdoors.
Upload defaults
Set video language to English (New Zealand), caption language, and the location. Default to public and schedule for 6–9 pm NZ time, which also lands in the Australian evening.
Study a channel in your niche with the Channel Analyzer before you pick a name, then draft your first titles with the Video Title Generator. Full setup walkthrough: how to start a YouTube channel.
Best YouTube niche in New Zealand
Niches that grow and pay for New Zealand audiences
The niches growing in New Zealand in 2026 are outdoors and hunting, personal finance, rugby, farming, home renovation, travel, cars and 4WD, food, trades and Māori and Pasifika content. Earning potential is qualitative and reflects advertiser demand for each topic.
Outdoors and hunting
High earning potentialBackcountry hunting, fishing and tramping content has a global audience and strong gear advertising.
Personal finance
High earning potentialKiwiSaver, mortgages and property explainers draw the highest-paying advertisers in New Zealand.
Rugby
Medium earning potentialThe All Blacks and Super Rugby are the national conversation; reactions rank within minutes.
Farming
High earning potentialDairy, sheep and beef content with machinery and agri-brand advertisers; long sessions.
Home renovation
High earning potentialReno and build content with home-brand advertisers; seasonal spikes in spring.
Travel
High earning potentialSouth Island and road-trip content reaches Kiwis and overseas visitors planning trips.
Cars and 4WD
Medium earning potentialReviews, builds and off-road trips; strong brand-deal market.
Food
Medium earning potentialKiwi cooking, baking and foraging; supermarket advertisers.
Trades
High earning potentialBuilders, sparkies and plumbers with a camera on the work; tool-brand advertisers.
Māori and Pasifika content
Low earning potentialTe reo, kapa haka and Pasifika culture content has a loyal audience and almost no competition.
Earning potential is qualitative (Low / Medium / High) and reflects advertiser demand and audience country, not a figure any channel will earn.
Saturated locally: generic tech news, broad motivation, reaction channels without commentary and "make money online" channels without a product. The videos are interchangeable, so watch time stays low.
Low local competition: plain-English explainers of New Zealand systems (IRD, KiwiSaver, ACC, Work and Income), regional content outside Auckland, trades with a camera on the work, and te reo Māori content.
Local audience or global audience? New Zealand creators already have a high-RPM audience and share a language and time zone with Australia. Kiwi-specific content draws local advertisers; outdoors, travel and farming content reaches Australia and the US at the same rates with far less competition, and the New Zealand backdrop is the draw.

How to get views and subscribers in New Zealand
Grow from New Zealand audiences
New Zealand viewers find videos through search and recommendations, watch from 6 to 9 pm NZ time, and respond to Kiwi references, so Kiwi-specific topics, a posting time that also catches Australia, rugby and summer-Christmas timing and retention over frequency do most of the work.
Titles and keywords in the words New Zealand viewers type
New Zealand searchers type specific queries with Kiwi terms (KiwiSaver, IRD, bach, tramping) and skip anything that reads as American clickbait about American systems. Put the query first, keep titles under 60 characters, and make the thumbnail text say something the title does not.

Thumbnails that work for New Zealand viewers
Faces with a clear expression, three words of text that add to the title, bright landscape colours for outdoors channels and clean backgrounds for finance. What fails is clutter, arrows and text that repeats the title.
Make the thumbnail in the Thumbnail Maker and run it through the Thumbnail Analyzer, which scores your thumbnail before you upload so you can compare two versions side by side.
Posting time in New Zealand time (NZST/NZDT)
New Zealand viewing peaks from 6 to 9 pm NZ time on weekdays, with a second peak on Sunday afternoons. Australia's east coast is two hours behind, so a 8 pm NZ upload lands at 6 pm in Sydney; the US West Coast is 19–21 hours behind, so a morning NZ upload lands in the US afternoon the day before. The Best Time to Post tool reads your own channel's viewer activity by hour and day, which beats any general rule once you have a few weeks of data.
Local trends, festivals and sport
Waitangi Day on 6 February, Easter, ANZAC Day, the end of the tax year on 31 March, Matariki in June or July, the rugby season, Labour Day, Black Friday and summer Christmas are the reliable spikes. Publish an end-of-tax-year video in early March so it ranks before the search peak.
Community posts and comments in the audience's language
Community posts with polls about the next trip or the next topic keep subscribers between uploads. Reply to early comments in the first hour; Kiwi audiences reward a dry, understated reply.
Collaborations with New Zealand creators at your size
Collaborate with creators at your size in your niche. Two 5,000-subscriber channels appearing in each other's videos each gain a new audience; New Zealand creator Facebook groups and niche subreddits are where these start.
Playlists and end screens
Group videos into playlists named with the search phrase, not a clever title, so the playlist itself ranks. Put the next video in the series on the end screen; a session that continues on your channel is the strongest signal you can send.
What the algorithm actually rewards
YouTube recommends videos that viewers watch for longer, rate as satisfying in surveys, and come back to. It does not reward upload frequency on its own, tags on their own, or keyword stuffing. Read the plain-language breakdown in the YouTube algorithm guide and check each upload with the Video SEO Checker before it goes live.
YouTube Shorts in New Zealand
Shorts as a monetization lane for New Zealand creators
Shorts in New Zealand reach the fan-funding tier at 3 million qualified Shorts views in 90 days and full monetization at 10 million, counted as engaged views; for Kiwi creators Shorts are the lane that feeds new viewers across the Tasman and the Pacific to long-form, where almost all of the ad revenue sits.
- 3 million qualified Shorts views in 90 days for the fan-funding tier; 10 million for full monetization.
- Qualified means engaged views: the viewer stays past the first seconds, and loops are not counted.
- Engaged views sit in YouTube Analytics and run below the dashboard view count.
- From 1 February 2027 new applicants for ad revenue need 20 million qualified Shorts views in 90 days.
- 3,000 qualified public watch hours in 12 months for the fan-funding tier; 4,000 for full monetization.
- Public uploads, podcasts and archived live streams count; Shorts watch time does not.
- Hours are checked over a rolling 12 months, so old public videos keep contributing.
- From 1 February 2027 new applicants for ad revenue need 8,000 qualified watch hours in 365 days.
A channel qualifies on whichever lane it fills first. New Zealand creators have a high long-form RPM, so Shorts are best used to find new viewers in Australia and the US and send them to long-form, while outdoors and comedy channels can still reach 3 million engaged Shorts views before 3,000 watch hours.
Local Shorts tactics
- Burn captions into the frame; most Shorts are watched without sound on a bus or in a smoko break.
- Cut every long video into two or three Shorts that stand alone, and pin the long-form link in the comment.
- Three specific hashtags beat ten generic ones; include the region or the activity where relevant.
- Post Shorts daily during the rugby season and the run-up to Christmas.
- Watch engaged views in Analytics, not the dashboard count; loops and the first seconds do not count toward the 3M and 10M thresholds.
Shorts RPM is far lower than long-form everywhere (third-party benchmarks put it around 0.03–0.15 USD per 1,000 views), so treat Shorts as the lane that builds subscribers and feeds long-form, not as the main earner. Read how Shorts monetization works for the revenue-share rules.
Write hashtags in your audience's language with the Shorts Tags Generator, pick a title with the Shorts Title Generator, see what is rising in Trending Shorts Ideas and score each Short with the Shorts SEO Checker.
YouTube monetization requirements in New Zealand
Requirements and the 1 February 2027 change
In New Zealand you can join the YouTube Partner Program at 1,000 subscribers plus 4,000 qualified watch hours or 10 million qualified Shorts views; the fan-funding tier at 500 subscribers is also available. From 1 February 2027 new applicants for ad revenue need 8,000 hours or 20 million Shorts views.
| Requirement | Fan funding and Shopping (500 subscribers) | Full monetization (1,000 subscribers) |
|---|---|---|
| Subscribers | 500 | 1,000 |
| Long-form path | 3,000 qualified public watch hours in the last 12 months | 4,000 qualified public watch hours in the last 12 months |
| Shorts path | 3 million qualified Shorts views in the last 90 days | 10 million qualified Shorts views in the last 90 days |
| Public uploads | 3 in the last 90 days | Not required |
| Earns from | Memberships, Super Chat, Super Stickers, Super Thanks, Jewels and gifts, Shopping | Everything in the fan-funding tier plus ad revenue and YouTube Premium revenue |
| Both tiers also need | Monetization-policy compliance, YPP availability in the channel's country, no active Community Guidelines strike, 2-Step Verification, advanced features access, one active AdSense for YouTube account | Same |
Thresholds as published on the YouTube Partner Program overview and eligibility and Overview of the expanded YouTube Partner Program pages, checked 22 October 2026. New Zealand appears on the standard YPP availability list, on the expanded (500-subscriber) list, and on the Super Chat and Super Stickers list.
days until the ad-revenue threshold doubles
Apply before 1 February 2027 and your channel is reviewed on 4,000 hours / 10M Shorts views. After that date new applicants need 8,000 hours / 20M Shorts views. The date that matters is when the application reaches YouTube, not when the reviewer decides; review takes about a month and a rejection means a 30-day wait before reapplying, so December is the last month with room for one retry. Announced by YouTube on 10 August 2026 (YouTube blog). The subscriber count and the 500-subscriber fan-funding tier do not change.
What counts as qualified
Counts
- Public long-form videos, including podcasts
- Live streams archived as public videos
- Public Shorts that generate engaged views (the viewer stays past the first seconds; loops do not count)
- Shorts watch time counts only toward the Shorts path, long-form only toward watch hours
Does not count
- Private, unlisted and deleted videos
- Live streams that are not archived
- Views generated while a video or Short is shown as an ad
- Image posts that appear in the Shorts feed
Source: YouTube blog: qualified watch hours and Shorts views. Setting an old video to private removes its hours the same day.
Apply step by step in YouTube Studio
Check in 30 seconds whether you already meet a tier. Track subscribers, qualified watch hours and engaged Shorts views toward both thresholds in the Channel Analyzer; get the full requirements breakdown in the YouTube monetization guide and the 4,000 watch hours guide.
What shortens the path
Actions that add qualified hours and views, not promises
Nothing on this list promises approval. Each item is an action that adds qualified watch time or engaged Shorts views to your channel, and names the tool that performs it.
Fix the ten lowest-scoring videos first
Run SEO Analysis on your weakest uploads and rewrite titles, descriptions and tags where the score flags gaps. Every extra view on an existing public video adds qualified watch time. Tool: SEO Analysis.
Lengthen average view duration before adding uploads
Open Channel Details, sort by average view duration, and study the videos viewers finish. Make the next video in that shape rather than adding more of what people leave. Tool: Channel Details.
Archive every live stream as a public video
A live stream that is not archived adds nothing. Archived public streams count as long-form watch hours.
Hide old uploads only after approval
Setting a video to private removes its watch hours the same day. Clean up embarrassing early videos once the channel is in the program, not before.
Take the Shorts lane if your audience is phone-first
If most of your viewers watch on mobile, 3 million engaged Shorts views in 90 days can arrive before 3,000 watch hours. Watch engaged views, not the dashboard count. Tool: Shorts SEO Checker.
Read the rejection reasons before you apply
Most 2026 rejections cite inauthentic or mass-produced content, reused content with nothing added, misleading titles or thumbnails, or AdSense problems. Check each one against your channel before submitting. Tool: guide to monetization rejections.
How to get paid by YouTube in New Zealand
Getting paid in New Zealand dollars
AdSense for YouTube pays New Zealand creators in New Zealand dollars by EFT to a New Zealand bank account once the balance reaches NZ$130; EFT is the only method listed for New Zealand and arrives within seven business days of the 21st–26th issue window.
Payment methods available in New Zealand
| Method | Currency and arrival | Best for and what to expect |
|---|---|---|
| EFT to a New Zealand bank | NZD; up to 7 business days after issue (21st–26th) | Every New Zealand creator; it is the only method listed. Any ANZ, ASB, BNZ, Westpac, Kiwibank or similar account; you enter the 15- or 16-digit account number and the account holder's name. No fees from AdSense. |
| Wire transfer, check, Hyperwallet | Not listed for New Zealand | The AdSense country table shows EFT only for New Zealand as of October 2026. |
Methods as listed in the AdSense payment methods by country table for YouTube payments, checked 22 October 2026. Arrival times from Payment timelines for AdSense for YouTube.
EFT in New Zealand dollars is the only route, and the simplest. New Zealand is one of the countries where AdSense lists a local-currency threshold (NZ$130), so you are paid in NZD straight into a local account with no conversion. Payment currency is fixed to the payment address once set.
What the bank asks for: the full account number in the bank-branch-account-suffix format and the account holder's name exactly as the bank prints it. For a sole trader that is your own name; for a company the AdSense payee and the account should both be the company.
Name matching. The AdSense payee name must match the account holder exactly; a payment to a joint account or a trading name that differs from the AdSense name is the usual reason an EFT fails.
Set up AdSense for YouTube payments step by step
- 1
Reach the payment-method selection threshold
AdSense lets you add a payment method once your balance passes a small verification amount; add it well before you expect to cross the payment threshold for your currency.
- 2
Add an EFT to a New Zealand bank account
In AdSense → Payments → Manage payment methods, choose the method and enter the full account number (bank, branch, account and suffix) and the account holder's name exactly as the bank prints it. The beneficiary name must match the AdSense payee name exactly.
- 3
Verify your address with the PIN
Google mails a PIN to your New Zealand postal address once you reach the verification threshold; enter it in AdSense within four months or payments pause.
- 4
Verify your identity
Upload a government-issued ID in the payee's name when AdSense asks; the name on the ID, the AdSense account and the bank account must all match.
- 5
Submit your tax information
Open AdSense → Payments → Manage settings → United States tax info and complete the form the guide selects for you so withholding is applied at the correct rate for your country.
- 6
Watch the monthly timeline
Earnings finalize around the 3rd, payment details lock on the 20th, and payments are issued between the 21st and 26th; track your balance toward the threshold from the Channel Analyzer.
ToolChannel Analyzer
The monthly payment timeline
Common holds and how to clear them
Address verification (PIN)
Google mails a PIN once you reach the verification threshold; enter it in AdSense. If it does not arrive after three requests, use the document-based option.
Identity verification
Upload a government ID that matches the payee name exactly. A mismatch between the AdSense name and the bank account name is the most common wire rejection.
Tax information
Submit the form in AdSense → Payments → Manage settings. Without it, 24% backup withholding applies to worldwide earnings for individuals.
Payment method missing
Add it before the 20th of the month you expect to cross the threshold.
Worked example: a 100 USD payment arriving in New Zealand
Example only. A NZ$130-threshold payment issued on the 24th by EFT typically lands in your New Zealand account within seven business days with no conversion and no fee, so the amount credited matches the AdSense receipt to the cent. The bank statement line shows Google as the sender; keep it with the receipt for the IRD.

Taxes for YouTube creators in New Zealand
Tax and legal basics for New Zealand creators
YouTube income in New Zealand is taxable income declared to the IRD on an IR3 return, provisional tax applies once the residual income tax passes the threshold, GST registration applies above the turnover threshold, and the W-8BEN in AdSense with the New Zealand–US treaty claim reduces withholding on US-viewer earnings.
How it is classified. AdSense income is self-employed income declared on your IR3 individual return for the tax year ending 31 March. Once your residual income tax passes the provisional tax threshold you pay provisional tax in instalments during the following year. Keep business records from the first payment.
GST. Registration becomes compulsory once turnover passes the threshold set by the IRD. AdSense income from Google's overseas entity is generally zero-rated as an exported service; brand deals with New Zealand companies are standard-rated. An accountant sets this up in your first GST return.
The form inside AdSense. Submit the W-8BEN as a New Zealand individual (or W-8BEN-E for a company) and claim the New Zealand–US tax treaty; the treaty reduces the rate on earnings from US viewers below the 30% default, and the exact rate is shown in the AdSense tax tool. Earnings from New Zealand, Australian and other non-US viewers are not withheld. Without any form, 24% of worldwide earnings is withheld.
Record-keeping. Keep every AdSense receipt and bank statement, plus receipts for equipment, software, vehicle use and a share of home costs; the IRD expects records kept for seven years.
The form inside AdSense is the W-8BEN. Fill it before the first payment so withholding matches your treaty position.

How much YouTube pays in New Zealand
Realistic earnings for New Zealand audiences
Third-party benchmarks put long-form RPM for New Zealand audiences at about 5–11 USD per 1,000 views in October 2026, with Shorts at 0.03–0.15 USD; finance, property and outdoors sit at the top of the range and gaming at the bottom.
| Scenario | Long-form | Shorts |
|---|---|---|
| Benchmark RPM per 1,000 views | 5–11 USD | 0.03–0.15 USD |
| 100,000 views, mostly New Zealand audience (illustrative) | about 500–1,100 USD | about 3–15 USD |
| 100,000 views, mixed audience incl. US/UK (illustrative) | higher, because the US and UK share is paid at 5–12 USD RPM | about 3–15 USD |
Industry estimate, Oct 2026, varies by niche and season. Illustrative rows multiply the benchmark range by views; they are not earnings data from any channel.
RPM is what a creator receives per 1,000 views after YouTube's share; CPM is what advertisers pay. New Zealand-audience RPM is among the highest on the platform because advertisers bid heavily for a small, high-income audience, and Australian advertisers often include New Zealand. Finance, property, outdoors and trades content attracts the highest-paying ads, gaming and entertainment the lowest, and a video over eight minutes with mid-roll ads out-earns a short one with the same views.
Audience country matters more than creator country. A creator in New Zealand whose viewers are mostly in the US, UK, Australia or Canada is paid at those countries' rates, which is why English-language content on New Zealand travel, outdoors and farming tends to show a higher RPM than local-language content with the same view count.
Shorts are paid from a shared pool and typically show 0.03–0.15 USD RPM. Long-form videos over eight minutes can carry mid-roll ads, which is the single biggest lever on long-form RPM.
Compare New Zealand with other markets in the YouTube RPM by country guide and by topic in YouTube RPM by niche; earn before ad revenue with the ideas in how to make money on YouTube without monetization.
More ways to earn in New Zealand
Income beyond ad revenue
Beyond ad revenue, New Zealand creators have memberships, Super Chat, Super Thanks and Shopping available with the fan-funding tier, and brand deals, gear partnerships and affiliate programmes usually out-earn AdSense for channels under a million views a month.
Memberships, Super Chat, Super Thanks and Shopping
All available to New Zealand channels with the fan-funding tier at 500 subscribers. Fans pay in New Zealand dollars; your share arrives through AdSense with the rest of your earnings.
Brand deals with New Zealand companies
Banks, KiwiSaver providers, outdoor-gear brands, car makers and tourism bodies spend on creators. Rates are quoted per integration in NZD; invoice with the correct GST treatment and keep a media kit with your Channel Analyzer numbers.
Affiliate programmes that pay in NZD
Amazon Associates (Australian storefront), Commission Factory retailers and gear-brand programmes pay to New Zealand accounts; disclose paid links in the description and in the video.
YouTube Shopping
Tag products from your own store or an affiliate program in videos and Shorts. Available with the fan-funding tier where Shopping is offered.
Brand deals
Brands price deals on views and audience country. Keep a one-page media kit with your Channel Analyzer numbers and quote in your local currency plus USD.
Affiliate links
Programs that pay to local bank accounts avoid a second currency conversion. Disclose paid links in the description and in the video.
Digital products and courses
A template, preset, PDF or course sells to a small audience well before ad revenue is meaningful. Sell through a platform that pays out in your currency.

Mistakes that stall channels in New Zealand
Mistakes that stall New Zealand channels
The patterns that stall New Zealand channels are reuploaded rugby footage, reaction content without commentary, American references for a Kiwi audience, frequency over retention, treating the income as untaxed, and hiding old videos before approval. Each has a fix.
Reuploading All Blacks or Super Rugby footage
Broadcasters claim it within hours and the channel collects strikes. Fix: react to the moment with your own camera and voice instead of showing the broadcast.
Reaction content without commentary
Reused content with nothing added is the most common rejection reason. Fix: your own analysis and framing, with permission where needed.
American references for a Kiwi audience
New Zealand viewers and advertisers both notice. Fix: Kiwi terms and spelling in titles and descriptions.
Frequency over retention
Three mediocre uploads a week lose to one that viewers finish. Fix: study average view duration in the Channel Analyzer and make the next video in the shape of the ones viewers finish.
Treating AdSense income as untaxed
The IRD receives foreign-payment data. Fix: declare it on your IR3 and keep records from the first payment.
Ignoring Shorts
Outdoors and comedy channels often reach 3 million engaged Shorts views before 3,000 watch hours. Fix: cut every long video into Shorts with captions.
Fake views from view-selling sites
Views from ad campaigns and view services do not count as qualified, and the pattern can get the application rejected. Fix: stop, delete nothing, and let real watch time accumulate.
Hiding old videos before approval
Setting early uploads to private removes their watch hours the same day. Fix: leave them public until the channel is accepted.
Applying with an unverified AdSense account
Address PIN and identity checks unresolved means the review stalls. Fix: clear every AdSense notification before you submit the YPP application.

FAQ
YouTube monetization in New Zealand: your questions
Short answers that stand on their own. Each restates the country and the number so it reads correctly when quoted alone.
How many subscribers do you need to get monetised on YouTube in NZ?
In New Zealand you need 1,000 subscribers plus either 4,000 qualified public watch hours in the last 12 months or 10 million qualified Shorts views in the last 90 days for full monetization. The fan-funding tier is also available in New Zealand at 500 subscribers with 3,000 watch hours or 3 million Shorts views plus three public uploads in 90 days.
Does YouTube pay in NZD in New Zealand?
Yes. The AdSense table lists EFT as the only method for New Zealand, and the AdSense threshold page lists NZD at NZ$130, so a New Zealand creator is paid in New Zealand dollars by EFT straight into a local account with no conversion. The payment currency is fixed to the payment address once set, so choose NZD deliberately when you add the method.
When does YouTube pay in New Zealand?
AdSense finalises the previous month's earnings around the 3rd, locks payment details on the 20th, and issues payments between the 21st and 26th if the balance on the 20th is at least NZ$130. An EFT to a New Zealand bank account then arrives within seven business days, so most Kiwi creators see the credit before the end of the month.
How much does YouTube pay in NZ per 1,000 views?
Third-party benchmarks for October 2026 put long-form RPM for New Zealand audiences at about 5–11 USD per 1,000 views and Shorts at 0.03–0.15 USD, varying by niche and season. Finance, property, outdoors and trades content sits at the top of that range, gaming and entertainment at the bottom, and rates climb from October to December when advertisers spend most.
Do I pay tax on YouTube income in New Zealand?
Yes. YouTube income earned by a creator living in New Zealand is self-employed income declared to the IRD on an IR3 return for the year ending 31 March, with provisional tax once residual income tax passes the threshold and GST registration above the turnover threshold. Google also withholds a treaty-reduced rate on US-viewer earnings after you submit a W-8BEN. This is general information, not tax advice.
How do I get paid by YouTube in New Zealand step by step?
Add an EFT in AdSense → Payments → Manage payment methods with your full account number (bank, branch, account and suffix) and the account holder's name exactly as the bank prints it. Verify your address with the mailed PIN, verify your identity if asked, and submit the W-8BEN claiming the New Zealand–US treaty. Payment is issued between the 21st and 26th once the balance reaches NZ$130.
Is Super Chat available in New Zealand?
Yes. New Zealand is on YouTube's Super Chat and Super Stickers availability list and on the expanded YouTube Partner Program list, so channels set to New Zealand can turn on memberships, Super Chat, Super Stickers, Super Thanks and Shopping at the 500-subscriber fan-funding tier. Fans pay in New Zealand dollars; your share arrives through AdSense.
What changes for creators in New Zealand on 1 February 2027?
From 1 February 2027 new applicants for ad revenue anywhere, including New Zealand, need 1,000 subscribers plus 8,000 qualified watch hours in 365 days or 20 million qualified Shorts views in 90 days, double the current 4,000 hours or 10 million views. The 500-subscriber fan-funding tier does not change, and channels already in the program keep their status.
